Poor ref favours Man Utd as the title looks theirs

The English Premiership which professes to be the best league in the world has had its reputation knocked this evening by one of the worst referring performances seen for a long time providing ammunition to those that claim the EPL is not as good as the English like to think.

In an open first half Tottenham were the better team and deserved to go in to the break with a two goal lead and as the second half started Spurs were holding their own and were looking more than capable of containing Man Utd but the known bias of referees at Old Trafford soon played it’s part.

Tottenham goalkeeper Gomes clearly pushed the ball away from Michael Carricks feet, this was clear on first viewing, it was clear on the replays and it was clear to the referee who had a birds eye view.

But to the disbelief of the Spurs players, the Spurs bench and millions watching referee Howard Webb gave a penalty, it was a shocking decision that changed the whole complexion of the game.
May be it is fresh in his mind how he was criticized by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson when he refereed the game between Man Utd and Arsenal in 2007 and wanted to prove Fergie right when Fergie said of Webb that he had “a great chance to be the top referee”
Harry Redknapp was clearly livid and one cannot blame him, the title may well have been decided by an appalling decision and Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have every right to believe that when it comes to Old Trafford referees are either scared or simply biased.

Tottenham fell to pieces after such an injustice and Man Utd ran away with game giving Tottenham an almighty thrashing, however anyone that knows football knows that one awful decision can and clearly did change the way the game played out.

Time and time again teams go to Old Trafford and are treated unfairly with most close decisions and nearly every crucial decision going Man Utd’s way and it is a shame that such a great club as Man Utd has to rely on refs to swing a game back in their favor.

Tottenham have to have a serious hard look in the mirror, to fall to pieces like this despite the incompetence of the ref is an embarrassment and questions have to be asked if Harry Redknapp really is the man to lead Tottenham, they did the same against Blackburn just a few weeks ago and that is a reflection on the manager.

Man Utd for their part cannot be blamed for the ref being useless and they capitalized big time and overall they ran out clear winners.

But the question will remain would they have got back in to the game if it was not for a ref???
